1. The keys to reading the N.T., especially the letters (Epistles) are figuring out:
A. What, culturally, belongs to the first century alone?
B. What transcends culture and is a principle for all time?
2. An easy example: 2 Timothy 4:13 (Paul’s cloak) and 2 Timothy 2:3 (endure hardship)
3. A harder example: 1 Cor. 14:33-35 (women & silence)
4. Conclusion: When reading the Epistles, search for the underlying principle before making an application to today.
